Recycling Old Vaping Products
Can I Recycle My Old Vaping Products
With recent COP26 talks and more efforts across all industries to look after our planet a bit more, we’ve compiled a brief and basic guide on how to reduce the burden on landfill and increase recycling across vaping products.
It’s important that we all try to recycle whenever and whatever we can. Some things are understandably a lot more hassle to recycle than others, recycling a vape device for example requires a lot more time and energy than a plastic water bottle would.
The best place to start when recycling is, where possible, to separate different materials. For example, the metal used in a vape coil can only be recycled once it has been washed and the non-recyclable cotton or mesh inside the coil has been removed. It’s a time-consuming job and it might be a little bit fiddly, but it is one step closer to help making our planet cleaner.
It is also important to note that different areas of the country have different recycling capabilities so you might want to check with your local authority or local recycling centre to check their recycling capabilities first.
Can I Recycle Vape Coils?
Coils are the part of your device that are made of a metal wire and wicking material that soaks up the e-liquid. Although most coils are removable, there are some that come fixed inside the tank or pod, and that will more than likely be a difficult job to take apart. If this is the case, make sure you check the packaging or user manual for any specific recycling instructions.
If you have been able to remove the coil from the tank, you want to focus on recycling the metal part. The non-recyclable cotton, mesh, or wicking has to be removed before you can add the coil to your everyday household recycling. It also has to be completely clean from any e-liquid and nicotine residue.
Can I Recycle Vape Tanks?
The tank/pod is the part of your device that holds the e-liquid. Recycling these is straightforward for a traditional metal tank because you can separate it from the battery and strip it fairly quickly of any non-recyclable parts such as rubber and silicone.
Metal can be recycled in your household recycling bin, if the glass is toughened, and it’s common that it will be, it will require a higher temperature to heat and recycle it and not all local authorities will accept it. Again, make sure to remove any non-recyclable components such as silicone or rubber and make sure the tank is clear of any e-liquid and nicotine residue.
Can I Recycle Vape Batteries?
The main part of your e-cigarette kit is the battery, which can absolutely be recycled. It is important to ensure that the battery is disposed of correctly and responsible to help protect the environment as all batteries contain hazardous materials. Lithium batteries can only be disposed of at a specialist battery disposal point at a local recycling centre.
Simply remove the battery from your device and dispose of it in a recycling bin. These recycling bins are often found in supermarkets, recycling facilities or in our Vampire Vape store locations.
Can I Recycle E-Liquid Bottles?
Most e-liquid bottles will be made from plastic, usually LDPE. HDPE, or PET. All of these are recyclable, particularly PET which is widely recycled but you may need to check with your local authority to check if they’re recycling the others.
Here at Vampire Vape, we make our e-liquid bottles out of PET plastic which can be easily recycled. This is the most widely recycled plastic and is often used for single use clear plastic bottles. PET can be recycled into polyester fabrics and for carpets and cushion fillings.
Our nibs are made of HDPE which are also easy to recycle. You might have to check with your local authority to ensure it is recycled in your area. HSPE is often recycled into pens and detergent bottles.
Our caps are made of PP plastic, which can be recycled however, you might need to check with your local authority to make sure they have the capabilities to recycle PP products. PP plastic can be recycled into brooms, brushes, garden rakes and plastic trays.
When recycling your e-liquid bottles, make sure it is clear of any e-liquid or nicotine residue.
Can I Recycle Vampire Vape Packaging?
We are constantly striving to incorporate eco-friendly products into our packaging and day-to-day operations to minimise our carbon footprint. Cardboard and general plastic can always be recycled in your household recycling waste, it is always really important to ensure that any product which you are recycling is clear of any e-liquid or nicotine residue and if in doubt, don’t be afraid to ask!
